About the Author
Mr Filippo De Florio, an aeronautical engineer, was Director of the Italian RAI-ENAC Type Certification Division between 1992-2000. In the same years, he was a member of the JAA Certification Committee. As a member of the JAR22 and JAR-VLA Study Groups since the 1970s, he has contributed to the creation and development of such standards.
He performed flight and test activity as a sailplane and aeroplane pilot for over 25 years. He is member of the OSTIV Sailplane Development Panel and Honorary Member of UVS International.
In June 2008, he was awarded the 1st UAS Pioneer Award instituted 'to honour and thank individuals for their exceptional and dedicated services to the international UAS community'.
He's currently working on the Third Edition of "Airworthiness" (expected publication: February 2016).

Unfortunately I discovered the book too late

When EASA Part-21 entered into force in my country, I had to qualify the company I was managing then as design organization. Back then, it was really hard to have clearly in mind "how all that work".
I just found about this book. The table of content made me think that this book was just what I needed. When I read it, it definitely enlighten me on details I misunderstood before. Actually, this book properly gives a very good overview from Design, Engineering and Maintenance in aviation.
I'd wish that I discovered this book in 2004!

Great introduction with excellant depth

This book gave a great introduction to practitioners who have traditionally dealt with avionics but is now being required to comply with DO-254 guideline. I've gone through this book and create an internal company training that has been very effective in helping my technical and sales & marketing teams to have a more in-depth knowledge than what can be found in wiki, which BTW is a decent source of high level information. However, if you are looking for specific details on DO-254 or DO-178, then this book may not necessarily provide enough. For DO-254, I would recommend taking a training class with a DER, and for DO-178, I would highly recommend the new book from Leanna Rierson (CRC Press (c) 2013)

The book is excellent. Taking into account that the subject is tough, the author makes it easy to read and to follow. I strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in airworthiness and certification of aerospace vehicles.
