Ajoutons aussi qu'il y a toujours d�saccord en la mati�re entre l'�glise catholique et les �glises protestantes pour certains livres.Les textes r�unis dans le premier tome rel�vent de l'Antiquit� chr�tienne et recoupent diff�rents genres bibliques : �vangiles (auquel il convient d'adjoindre des �crits relatant la vie et la dormition de Marie, m�re de J�sus), �p�tres, Actes des ap�tres, apocalypses (sur les derniers temps et l'au-del�). Ces pi�ces sont pr�cieuses. Elles permettent une connaissance plus approfondie des premiers temps de l'�glise et la compr�hension de traditions - dans le domaine de la pi�t�, de la liturgie ou de l'art - dont nous n'avons pas trace dans les textes canoniques. Les textes r�unis dans le second tome sont, dans leur majorit�, plus tardifs. Ce volume accorde, d'autre part, une place plus grande que le premier � des livres qui circul�rent dans des aires religieuses et linguistiques autres que le monde byzantin et l'Occident latin ; les traditions copte, arabe, �thiopienne, arm�nienne y sont bien repr�sent�es. Pour la plupart, ces �crits n'avaient encore jamais �t� publi�s en langue fran�aise. Les �crits chr�tiens que l'on dit � apocryphes � n'ont cess� d'�tre diffus�s, r�crits, adapt�s. Ils furent le terreau de l'imaginaire chr�tien, et une source d'inspiration pour les sculpteurs, les peintres, les �crivains, les musiciens et les cin�astes : le Bunuel de La Voie lact�e se souvient des Actes de Jean. C'est que, face au discours r�gnant, institutionnel, ces textes ouvrent un espace � l'imagination. Ils se d�veloppent en quelque sorte dans les interstices des livres canoniques. Ils comblent des vides, inscrivent une parole dans les silences, donnent une voix aux personnages muets, un nom et un visage � ceux qui n'�taient que des ombres. Comme toute litt�rature, ils rusent avec le discours clos.
