About the Author
Howard M. Schwartz, PhD, received his B.Eng. Degree from McGill University, Montreal, Canada in une 1981 and his MS Degree and PhD Degree from MIT, Cambridge, USA in 1982 and 1987 respectively. He is currently a professor in systems and computer engineering at Carleton University, Canada. His research interests include adaptive and intelligent control systems, robotic, artificial intelligence, system modelling, system identification, and state estimation.

One of the Most Detailed, Comprehensive, and Thorough Books I've Read

Many Kinsey followers will judge this book on their emotions alone, for they obviously have based their core being on their sexuality and have counted on Kinsey to justify their behaviors as an identity. Reisman does an excellent job explaining the fraudulent methodology behind Kinsey's "research" and backs it up with irrefutable evidence. She also explains in a very logical sequence of events how Kinsey's destructive research has infiltrated the hearts and minds of the people. We are talking about the whole picture here. Kinsey was a complete fraud, and his fraud was funded heavily by elites (Rockefellers) then propagated to make us believe that his science was something we already are, when that wasn't the case at all.

Astounding!
By Old Enough to Know Better
If this book is even 50% accurate we have been the victims of a tragic case of following a corrupt leader. Based upon this book and other information regarding Kinsey I tend to suspect that this book is far more than 50% accurate.

Kinsey claimed to be a legitimate researcher, objectively studying sexual behavior. From a number of sources the picture is painted of a researcher that was sexually abusive to himself and others. Kinsey's objectivity is questionable if, indeed, he was sex addicted and trying to normalize his own behavior through his work.

Judith Reisman words are worthwhile and obviously spoken from sincerity. She pulls no punches and says what needs to be said. I'm surprised by how much even my own values have been swayed over the years but reading this book is a major reality check. Everything she said rings true to my experience. When I was a child, my elders, not just within the family, but those I encountered in school or everyday life, were sexually very conservative. The Greatest Generation that she speaks about were, at least in my estimation, very down to earth and had high standards. In line with what she said in her book, the disease rates and teen pregnancy rates bear this out. Kinsey tried to paint a different picture and thereby made that Greatest Generation look like hypocrites.I think it comes down to revisionism for the benefit of "normalizing" his own behavior. My generation was more likely to be sexually active as teens than my parent's generation but it was still relatively uncommon and anyone that dared try was unlikely to be worried about STDs; they were effectively non-existent in our age group. If my generation was thusly restrained the WW II generation could only have been even more so.

Most people coming of age in our day never learn any degree of sexual self-control and this is an absolute necessity within a long term relationship. A lot of men these days can't even imagine a few month's celibacy when their wife in in the late stages of pregnancy or directly after childbirth. I can't imagine my father or either of my grandfathers demanding a hall pass to cope with such a situation, yet that is not unknown in our day.

Nowadays sexual techniques are published in women's magazines sold at the checkout line of the supermarket. One could easily get the impression that sexual satisfaction requires years of study and practice to achieve, but the generations before ours didn't see things this way. I see it all as a mosaic of social pressures that have moved couples away from intimacy and love and in the direction of maximizing sensation instead. No one can live on cake alone, but some of these relationships are trying to survive on the icing, not to mention the cake. The emotional nutrition of intimacy doesn't seem to be on many people's radar anymore.

Sexual Sabotage, IMO, hits it on the head. Things have changed drastically in the last 60 years or so and Kinsey's misleading research has been a big part of it. There's much more freedom, but I don't think that there's all that much satisfaction. I was taken in by it to some degree, in spite of a strong moral background. But, even before reading this book I've noticed that some people seem to believe that they must live up to the mantra of the sexual revolution, even though it has not yielded positive results in their lives. You can almost see it when they speak, as they mentally review their thoughts before speaking lest they accidentally go contrary to the social norm as they perceive it.

In my opinion, we have been sold a bill of goods regarding sex and Dr. Reisman's book helps to explain this. There may be more freedom today, but there is also more divorce, more disease and more people without a mate, living from encounter to encounter. Kudos to Dr. Reisman for standing against the tide and exposing Kinsey for what he truly was.

Highly recommended if you find the current social climate distressing for its lack of morality.

Sheds light on fake research

I wasn't sure what all was in this book, and now I am very glad I got it- It shows, with Kinsey's own charts, the "subjects" of his so-called studies, on children as young as 2 months old. No valid researcher on human sexuality would 'test' subjects like this. Also lists those who provided the research - pedophiles, rapists, and prostitutes (aka "everyday married women") This shows plainly that Kinsey's research is a fraud perpetrated on the American society, with SEICUS and Planned Parenthood using Kinsey's research as a basis for their 'education', and normalization of deviant behavior. I highly recommend this book.

About the Author

Heidi Darras (Belgium) is a self-taught digital artist who is currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in art.  She has studied tarot for more than a decade.

In the early 1990s, at a party, someone put a tarot deck in Barbara's hands; she's held on tightly ever since. Tarot provides just enough structure so that we don't get lost as we explore the mysteries, plumb our dark corners, and locate our North Stars.

Barbara has been reading and writing for as long as she can remember. She's published a number of books on tarot, including Tarot for Beginners, Tarot Spreads, The Steampunk Tarot, The Gilded Tarot, The Mystic Dreamer Tarot, and Tarot of the Hidden Realm. Writing is solitary work and is relieved by teaching tarot at conferences around the world. Barbara also loves working directly with clients, helping them uncover guidance and insight in the cards.

Artist and author are wonderful!

The art is why I bought this deck. I usually don't like this style, but something really drew me to most of these cards. I have the app and kept going back to look at various images. I'll give you my honest input...but we all have our ideas about things. What I like or don't like might not appeal to someone else and it is a very hard call, so I'll be as concise as possible.

Print Design: I guess this parchment yellow was a judgement call, but when you have a lot of moon images, wouldn't something like a navy blue be better??? I feel in this deck that someone was trying to compete with the artist. The border is VERY distracting from the art.

The Quality: What completely redeems the bad border choice is the artist work and the card quality. The card stock is thin, but I prefer the thinner stock. I do not like this new heavy card stock that feels like you are holding a chunk of plastic in your hands. The card and box also doesn't have any chemical stink that knocks you out. Some newer deck do. The size of the cards are about as perfect as you can get for holding. I like somewhere closer to a playing card size versus an Oracle card. These may be a bit small for some, but perfect for me. I also love the feel and texture of the cards. Again, not a high gloss and they feel nice.

The Book: I LOVE the book! The size is great and the only thing they could have done better is make it full color photos, but as is, just fine. It is also a very nice size to hold. It is the first time I am reading the book and don't feel bogged down. I am actually enjoying it. Specific and to the point. Not a lot of personal irrelevance and strangeness you get in some decks. I am going to look for more of Barbara Moore's work.

The Box: The box is not the best, but not the worst. It is pretty, but thin and chintzy. I'll store that in some forgotten corner. I prefer to keep cards in bags anyhow. Boxes are usually cumbersome.

Conclusion: This is going to be one of my personal favorite decks. It really calls to me. The art is so provocative and the cards nice to hold. The book is already a favorite. I can get over the horrid borders.

The two cards that make a deck for me are the Hermit and the Death card. This deck has THE BEST metaphorical death card EVER. I just love the idea. Brilliant! There are only perhaps 2 cards that I am a bit ho-hum about, but I like almost every other card. This is what impressed me about the deck. I kept going back to look at various cards. If you have any vision issues and you collect tarot cards, I suggest that you buy a nice magnifier lamp light. This is very handy in look at finer details. I also suggest buying the app. It gives a much better perspective of the image details.

I don't think there is anything near a concept of diversity in this deck, but I get a kick out of the Queen of Wands. She is a bit plump with a sunflower over her head and the King of Wands is quite the pouting hotty with lions at his feet. She looks a bit ticked off and he looks narcissistic. I just found that very funny! That is probably what I like so much about this art. Each image tells a really interesting story. This type of art is not easy and usually borders on idiotic or just bad taste. Heidi Darras really has a gift in not crossing that line into Photoshop horror. As a nature photographer myself, with a degree in Communications and art, I have a low level of tolerance for certain things. I decided that I HAD to have this deck and ordered it with one day shipping. I paid twice what I could have, but I am not sorry at all.

Llewelyn can redeem their bad choices on the border design by republishing this deck at some point. Please try to consult qualified artists in the future...or how about THE artist?! So, yes, go ahead and shell out your cash if you think you are drawn to this deck. Both the artist and author are a delight! Llewelyn did make a few good choices and the general quality is worth the price.

Update: 5.10.17: After much agonizing over these cards I finally made peace with them. Believe it or not...I turned the deck I edited so much into a Lenormand deck. They work beautifully! I then ordered a whole new regular deck. I'll learn to live with the yellow borders. Again...the author and artist really did a beautiful job on these despite the printing issues. After about $60 I am happy.

I really like this deck

I really like this deck, but I understand what about reviewer was saying about the artwork though. There's a lot of blurring, some images don't blend well together, etc. All in all if you really prefer nice and neat artwork, especially if you are a professional graphic artist, you may find this to be too much of a distraction. Thankfully I can look past it (though I do find myself mentally *fixing* the images) enough to see the beauty that is behind the art. The ONLY problem I truly have with this deck is the cardstock. It's so thin I am hesitant to even call it that, it's more like slightly thick paper with a glossy coat. Sadly because of that I don't see this deck standing up to long term use but if you only read occasionally or have it in a rotation with other decks it should be okay. I love the *feel* of the deck though and I can't wait to use it more.

Nice, moderately dark deck

You can see pictures of the cards on a number of tarot deck websites, so I won't spend a lot of time on them here. If you're an art deck collector, this is probably already on your LustList. If not, you want to know how it *reads*.

First, there's no nudity in this deck, which to many readers who read at public fairs, is a huge relief. (The Lovers are semi-nude, but tastefully photoshopped). It's a darkish deck--moons appear in every card--but the overall tone is not particularly shadowy or bleak to me, as many 'darker' decks are. The symbolism is strongly reliant on RWS, so owners of other 'standard' decks can probably jump right in with readings. Some differences exist--the Hanged Man, for example, has both legs straight instead of the standard 'figure four', the Devil doesn't have a scary guy with horns--but all in all your RWS deck skills will transfer pretty seamlessly. Many symbols repeat throughout the deck, like waterfalls and ravens, that are not standard, but do lead to fascinating connections in a more intuitive-style reading.

The deck is heavily female--in case the big PINK box it comes in doesn't give that away. It features women more than men in the cards themselves--the swords suit, for example, is almost entirely female. The book it comes with is nice--not the LWB, but a paperback glossy covered affair. The explanations for each card are solid, and not very 'out there' or far from standard interpretations. The real treasure of the book comes in the 'use your intuition' questions for each card.

This is my first photo-collage deck, and I like it a lot more than I'd expected. I'd hoped it would be a bit more androgynous in appeal and pictures. But I can't fault a deck that gives good, solid readings and pushes a reader or a tarot-meditator to further their intuitive skills.

About the Author
Andrew B. Abel is the Ronald A. Rosenfeld Professor of Finance at the Wharton School and professor of economics at the University of Pennsylvania. He received his AB summa cum laude from Princeton University and holds a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Abel has published extensively on fiscal policy, capital formation, monetary policy, asset pricing, and social security–as well as serving on the editorial boards of numerous journals. He has been honored as the Alfred P. Sloan Fellow, a Fellow of the Econometric Society, and a recipient of the John Kenneth Galbraith Award for teaching excellence. He is a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research and a member of the Advisory Board of the Carnegie-Rochester Conference Series.

Ben S. Bernanke Previously the Howard Harrison and Gabrielle Snyder Beck Professor of Economics and Public Affairs at Princeton University, Ben Bernanke received both the Allyn Young Prize for best Harvard undergraduate economics thesis and the John H. Williams prize for outstanding senior in the economics department. He went on to earn his PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and he has been honored as a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research. I bought this text for self study. This book is clearly written so that a self-learner can learn intermediate macroeconomics. I particularly like the appendix that follows the chapter on IS-LM. The problems in both the workbook and the textbook allow me to think deeply about the concepts.

The text does not have any answers at the back of the text.

Every morning for the past semester, I have worked my way through this text. I find the text easy reading and enjoyable.

Class was terrible, book was GREAT

The topic is a hard if you are not a math wiz. I honestly had a lot of trouble with Micro economics because of the terrible book, but thought this book was outstanding in explaining the topic. I did well in this class not because the professor was any good, but because this book had great examples, explained everything in great detail and was to the point. Yes, i need the dumbed down version...this is a basics book. I cant stand ordering a basics book, only to have it be completely over my head. This def did its job. I highly recommend it.

Decent, but do not purchase from Amazon.com if you need MyEconLab

Another reviewer mentioned he/she got a version without MyEconLab (which costs $50 extra to purchase separately). I thought he/she just bought it off of someone in the Amazon *marketplace*. Nope, I bought the version "sold by and fulfilled by Amazon" and I also got shafted. The book is supposed to come in shrinkwrap with MyEconLab login sheet attached to it, but mine came without it. If you need the login, your university bookstore may just be the cheapest place to find this thing.

Update: I gave it 2 stars initially for the rip-off. Now, after having read the book, I'd give it 3 to 5 stars for content. My University of Chicago professor did a lot better job explaining the concepts than the book, so maybe my expectations are inflated, but I thought that Abel/Bernanke could have made it more simple and less verbose. Still, if you can stay focused enough to read this thing (I had a hard time and I like the subject matter), it does explain macro much better than some of the alternatives I've seen before. Also, the "real life" application green sections are incredibly valuable, as they contain some empirical data to show which theories are most likely valid; e.g. does lowering personal taxes actually "stimulate the economy" (increase GDP). A lot of macroeconomics is about which theory/assumptions you end up believing, and this book does a decently good and impartial job at pointing you in the "probably right" direction. You will also gain some appreciation for why macroeconomists can disagree so strongly about basic policy issues.

Overall, I'd give this book three stars compared to my grad school professor but five stars comparing to my undergrad professor and textbook. If you are forced to learn macro by just reading this book, you'll get a pretty good basic understanding without too much pain (comparing to the alternatives of course).

Environmental degradation is no longer a peripheral concern of the social sciences and contemporary politics: it is an unavoidable and pressing reality. This book seeks to establish whether contemporary social theory can help us understand the structural origins of environmental degradation and environmental politics.

The book opens by arguing that the historical bequest of classical social theory is very limited. Marx, Weber and Durkheim lived long enough to witness the environmental consequences of modern economic growth but died too soon to witness its long term consequences and the growth of political resistance. Goldblatt attempts to transcend the limits of that tradition through a critical investigation of the work of Anthony Giddens, Andre Gorz, Jurgen Habermas and Ulrich Beck.

Social Theory and the Environment analyses the roles of capitalism, state socialism and industrialism in generating environmental degradation; the environmental implications of urbanism and globalisation; the integration of environmental questions with political economy; and the structural origins of environmental movements. It concludes with a discussion of the relationship between conceptions of socialism in social theory and its relevance to contemporary environmental politics. Wide ranging and carefully argued, this challenging text will be of particular interest to students of social and political theory, ecology and enviromental studies.

I teach an "economics of Antitrust course" and found the Antitrust Revolution to be a teriffic complement to Blair & Kaserman's text Antitrust Economics. I have my students write "case briefs" of the case studies presented in the text based upon different categories of conduct. Each case study is written by an economist directly involved in the case. Students appreciate the perspective of an insider in seeing how economic analysis is employed in the adjudication of these important antitrust cases.

Not an exciting read, but is used in many college courses.

About the Author
Brian Astbury founded and ran South Africa's first non-racial theatre/arts venue, The Space, in the 70's, where he commissioned internationally famous plays like Sizwe Banzi is dead, The Island and Statements after an arrest under the Immorality Act from playwrights like Athol Fugard, Pieter-Dirk Uys, Geraldine Aron and Fatima Dike, South Africa's first black woman playwright. Many of the 'graduates' of The Space have gone on to become mainstays of the post-Apartheid South African theatre, TV and film scene. At The Space he began his career as a director. In the 80's he moved to London when his wife, South Africa's greatest actress, Yvonne Bryceland, joined the National Theatre Company. Here he began to teach - first at LAMDA, then, in the 90's at Mountview, where he was Head of Acting, Directing and Musical Theatre Courses. In 2003 he moved to E15 where he set up the Contemporary Theatre Practice course to teach actors, directors and writers the arts of survival through production of their own material. Later he headed the MA in Professional Theatre for Writers and Directors, before retiring in 2008. Over the years Astbury has formulated the techniques for training actors, writers and directors described in Trusting the Actor in collaboration with students and professional actors. Many of these techniques have their basis in the use of energy and emotion to free the practitioner's imagination, allowing actors to understand and be able to access the mysterious state known as 'being in the moment'. He has also developed methods of accessing and freeing the imagination of writers through the use of mind-mapping and image-streaming. He has done workshops on these techniques at the Young Vic, the National Theatre Studio, the London Playwrights Collective among others.

a must read!

For the last 10 years, I couldn't name a recent book that would have brought a fresh perspective to the actor's craft. The ones worth reading were from past decades, from Stanislavsky to Viola Spolin, from Meisner to Eric Morris.
Until I came across Brian Astbury's book - Trusting the Actor, published in 2011.
What a hidden gem this is.
Brian Astbury is a South-African theatre director who developed a unique approach to acting while working as an acting teacher in the UK.
This approach can be (perhaps unhelpfully?) described as anti-Stanislavsky - he stirrs away from analyzing the text and tries to get the actor's "right-side of the brain" engaged in the process, turning the performance into something alive and instinctive.

The first half of the book retraces his professional career and life, with a good dose of personality and wit, while pinpointing the biggest dilemmas faced by actors. The second half outlines the exercises that Brian teaches. Best of all, he names his sources (current findings from neuroscientists like Antonio Damasio and Joseph LeDoux, for instance), explains his reasoning, and is brave/humble enough to admit mistakes and lessons learned along the way.
Beyond mixing theory with practice, there's so much passion in his writing... it makes for such a compelling read and a real inspiration to anyone who is taking first steps towards the profession.

On a side note, this approach -or something very close to it- has been practiced by Brazilian acting coaches like Fatima Toledo in Brazil's film industry, leading to a visceral acting that has drawn a lot of attention in films like Central Station, City of God, Lower City, Elite Squad, among others. So if you're curious to see what this technique can lead to, it's worth taking a look at the films mentioned.

Finally. An accessible, unpretentious and immediately applicable piece of practical advice about Acting, Directing, Life & What to do about it.

Do you ever wish you could take a friend, teacher or icon, fold them up and put them in your pocket for inspiration, support or just plain company? Well, ladies and gentlemen, here it is: a perfectly portable Brian Astbury! As my mentor and friend, I've often wanted to zap to the UK, wander into his favourite caf and simply listen. Now, in the absence of zapping, I simply open my Kindle (what an invention!) and read.

This book is an absolute must in the tool bag of any modern day theatre professional and an interesting read for those interested in emotional and social behaviour. The book strikes a perfect balance between theory and practice, covering a range of exercises, techniques and methods, and substantiating them with a range of funny and moving memories from Astbury's intriguing life.

Mostly, I've found this book hugely inspiring as an actor and director.

Inspirational

This book contains some of the most inspirational and practical information for actors, directors and writers that I've ever encountered. While I have found other theatre books to be though provoking, none of them have stirred me to pick up a pen and start writing immediately the way this one has. I had the privilege of spending several months studying with Brian in college during a particularly stimulating and formative time. Reading the book took me back to the feelings and impulses I remember having at that time but also drove me forward to new creative endeavors. I am thrilled to now have a means of listening to Brian whenever I find myself stuck creatively, by simply opening the book and reading his words.
